We live in a country where everyone is entitled to their own opinions, their own thoughts, their own style and their own way of life. Want to eat breakfast for dinner every night? Go for it. Wear underwear on your head? You might get a few strange looks in the grocery store, but hey, do what you want, kid.
So, in a place with so much freedom… why do so many people conform?
Normally, this is something you see in high school. Teenagers try to “fit in” and “find themselves” by conforming to social norms…listening to “cool” music, wearing popular brands of clothing, etc.
Sometimes, though, people don’t grow out of this stage. They will always feel the need to change their opinions in order to fit in to a crowd. These people, I’ve deemed, addicts to conformity.
I challenge these people: become your own person. Develop your own opinions. Don’t let peer pressure rule your world. Become the person that you want to be, not the person that you hang out with.
