Life: Letting go of what you can’t change

“One of the happiest moments in life is when you find the courage to let go of what you can’t change.”

I stumbled across this phrase on Pinterest this morning, in the midst of taking a few moments to relax and reevaluate the things that have been driving me crazy lately.

b92feb30a3b191c18e153a7756200044It’s this phrase that made me realize that all of the things that are weighing me down right now are all things that I can’t change.

What you can change, though, is your outlook on life, your future, or whatever may be bothering you. A favorite site of mine, Purpose Fairy, offers some tips:

1. Give up on living your life to other people’s expectations. This is probably my favorite piece of advice the site has to offer. Sometimes, it says, that you spend so much time focusing on pleasing other people, that you lose control of your life completely.

You can’t please everyone. Someone will always disagree. You will not always see eye-to-eye with someone, whether it be a friend, family member or colleague.

2. Give up complaining. “Nobody can make you unhappy, no situation can make you sad or miserable unless you allow it to.” Is there someone in your life that complains so much that it ruins your day? Stop letting them bother you.

3. Don’t try to fight a situation that you can’t change. It can, and most likely will, make the situation work. Instead, ask yourself what you can learn from the situation.

4. Stay positive. Staying positive and sending positive vibes to the people around you will have a greater effect on them than you may realize.

And hey, it’s Sunday. Take some time to relax — that’s important too.
